Veteran journalist Madhu Shetty passed away
Veteran journalist Shri Madhu Shetty passed away this morning at Mumbai at the ripe old age of 89. Shri Shetty was closely associated with Bombay Union of Journalists and Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) in different capacities. He played a significant role in establishing the Mumbai Press Club in 1968 in collaboration with Bombay Union of Journalists. Shri Shetty fought for the Goa Mukti Sangram along with Shri SB Kolpe, who later became the President of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists. He fought for the implementation of the Palekar Tribunal Award in the newspapers. Shri Shetty started his career from the Free Press Journal and later he became the special correspondent of Patriot and Link weekly in Bombay. Patriot was a left-leaning newspaper, published from New Delhi and veterans like E. Narayanan and indomitable freedom fighter Aruna Asif Ali were moving spirits for the starting the newspaper.
